VABTITUS - Velocity-Augmented Barriers for Tidal Turbines

Project Aims: The use of arrays of turbines in parallel is quite common for the exploitation of tidal currents. An attractive solution is that of vertical-axis turbines, installed with suitable two-dimensional devices for the enhancement of the stream velocity. Actuator-disk models, based on the conservation of mass and momentum, have been developed in order to predict the interaction with the free stream and the accelerated flow rate directed to the turbine. The project aims at testing and new original barrier model and in the further perspective, a new actuator disk model will be developed using CFD tools.
