Development of the hybrid O2WC device
The O2WC project is a research and development project of the joint A-MARE laboratory, implemented by the two partners LABIMA (DICEA-UNIFI) and AM3 Spin-off s.r.l., concerning the development of an innovative device for wave energy conversion, based on a hybrid technology combining oscillating water column and overtopping systems.
The first laboratory tests for the proof-of-concept of the technology, conducted in 2015, are documented in:
- Cappietti L, Simonetti I, Penchev V, Penchev P (2018) Laboratory tests on an original wave energy converter combining oscillating water column and overtopping devices, Advances in Renewable Energies Offshore - Proceedings of the 3rd RENEW Conference.
In 2022, further experimental tests were conducted at LABIMA, aimed at the further conceptual development of the device. This involved the participation of personnel from AM3 Spin-off s.r.l. for the construction of a scaled-down model and the conduct of experimental activities. The results of this new research and development activity were presented at the 5th International Conference on Renewable Energies Offshore (Lisbon, 08 - 10 November 2022) and published in the journal Energies:
